YMCA Youth Wellness Training Program

The Ed Thomas YMCA provides an unique training experience for the youth members by offering the YMCA Youth Wellness Training Program. With this program, youth ages 10-15 may utilize the Wellness Floor and Weight Room without a parent or guardian by participating in the YMCA Youth Wellness Training program provided by YMCA Wellness Coaches.

YMCA Youth Wellness Training is complimentary to members and held each Wednesday (during MPS academic school year) at 2:30 pm for one hour, or by appointment based on wellness coach availability. Registration for the Wednesday session is not required, however, space is limited to 10 participants. During MPS summer vacation months, Youth Wellness Trainings are by appointment only.

Upon completion, individuals will receive a corresponding bracelet to the training completed and have their membership marked for access. A “Red” bracelet is for the wellness floor and “Blue” is for the wellness floor and weight room access.

Bracelets are disposable and continued usage will require members to receive a bracelet at membership services prior to using the equipment.

YMCA Wellness Floor and Weight Room Training are as follows:
 
WELLNESS FLOOR TRAINING- Ages 10-15, (30-minute session)
 
  • Learn wellness floor responsibilities and rules.
  • Learn how to properly use cardio equipment including stair climbers, treadmills, ellipticals, etc.
  • Adults should participate (not required) in this training as well as be present anytime the youth is on the wellness floor prior to turning 12 years old.
WEIGHT ROOM TRAINING Ages 13-15, (30-minute session)
 
  • Learn how to properly use main strength training equipment (Precor Strength Line and free-weights) and weight room etiquette.
  • Includes education on the 5 components of physical fitness and healthy living.
WEIGHT TRAINING (1-hour session)
 
For YMCA Members Only – Fee $15 per session (max: 3 per member)
 
Youth ages 13-15 are eligible to receive one-on-one Free-Weight Training upon completion of the Wellness Floor and Weight Room training.
 
  • Additional education in proper form and technique when using free weights along with proper spotting.
  • Expanded teaching on available fitness equipment in regard to cardio equipment and weight room.
